Calvin Party

Somewhere in the obscure English North, Calvin Party peddled their gritty heartfelt wares from the 80s to the noughties. Songs of love, passion and social conscience delivered by weaving guitars over a blistering backbeat.

Songwriter John Donaldson and talented multi-instrumentalist Dave Thom were always at the core of the band throughout its various incarnations as other members came and went. Liverpool label Probe Plus's Geoff Davies has faithfully put out their records through thick & thin.

Their first Eli Records EP Songs of Loss and Gain has become a popular part of their back catalogue featuring two of their rawest and rarest early tracks (Friction and Under The Hammer).

8 Days, a thundering churning love anthem is the title track on their 2nd Eli Records EP. Just Keep Falling, a punchy pop song, is the other studio track. The remaining 3 are recorded live in Holland.

Songs of Loss and Gain is an 8 track 2 EP Eli Recs release. Its bookended by 2 rare and very early CP tracks (Under the Hammer & Friction - fantastic tracks, raw and pounding, featuring John at his angry passionate best) - sandwiched in between are 6 stripped down, acousticky & bare Calvin Party tracks - 4 of these appear courtesy of Probe Plus Records, and appear on the Probe album. (Never as Black - Probe 54 distributed by SRD).
